Dead Shows in Las Vegas were legendary. The concerts were always epoch. For starters the opening acts were always top notch, and at this show Carlos Santana warmed up the crowed under the Vegas sun. The heat could be a problem for those who were unprepared, so drinking lots of water was a must. At a few shows I remember fire hoses were used to spray the crowd off with water to keep people on the floor cool.
There were a lot of references to the Hunter S. Thompson book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and plenty of the t-shirts for sale in the parking lot were a play on that theme. The Casinos at night had the deadhead element which only enhanced the whole gambling experience. At just about every casino you could hear "paging Mr. Garcia, Mr. Jerry Garcia you have a telephone call."
