I am not the kind of person who can eat what ever I want and still stay thin. Quite to the contrary, I have battled with the bulge and my body wants to be fat so I have to bust a regular sweat to keep from expanding. That is why I enjoy training for athletic events like triathlons, runs and bike rides. These events are goals that help sugar coat the medicine my body needs, exercise.

On March 7th, 2004 I ran the L.A. Marathon, my first and only marathon to date.. It was a challenging event especially because it was a hot day, with temperatures reaching into the upper 80's and low 90's. I finished with a time of 4 hours 45 minutes and 38 seconds. The clock in this picture reads 4:50, but it took me about 5 minutes to reach the start line. Its true, you can even look up my results on the LA marathon web page if you don't believe me! Anyway, among men aged 30-34 I placed 565th of 1,716 runners. I thought that wasn't bad for my first marathon. On September 11 2005 I competed in the Olympic distance L.A. Triathlon. While most of the competitors around me had sweet road bikes, I pushed through the course on my hardtail mountain bike. As I ran past the finish line and into the finishers area, to my delight I ran straight into the beer gardens. Free Michalobe Ultra at 10:30 in the morning never tasted so refreshing. Once I realized I was a.m. boozing with mostly sweaty guys in tights, I had my family pick me up and we had a nice afternoon along the Venice beach boardwalk.

Swim, Bike and Run. That is the battle call for triathletes. The thumbnail pictures below are from my first triathlon, which was the Malibu Nautica tri, held in September 2003. I competed in the male mountain bike division (since I don't own a road bike) and I placed 12th out of 62 men with a time of 2 hours 2 minutes and 28 seconds. We had a lot of fun training and trash talking before the event and it helped us all get into shape!

In September 2004 I competed in the Malibu triathlon again, my second triathlon event ever. This time I managed to come in 3rd place in the men's mountain bike division. In the picture below I got my moment of glory standing on the podium and earning the medal. My friend Adam also made the podium in 4th place.

In 2005 both Adam and I made the podium again at the Malibu Triathlon, in the men's mountain bike division. In 2005 I managed to come in 4th, and Adam powered his way to 2nd. My kids loved watching me on the podium. . . dad's so strong!

friendsbikeride.gif (259426 bytes) The photo on the left was taken at the top of a very big hill in the middle of the Rosarito to Ensenada 50 mile bike ride on September 27, 1997. I'm wearing the silver helmet, and my friend David is in the white helmet. Also joining us on this ride were Colby, Erik and wearing the yellow jersey was Rob. We have done this ride several times, and although its not a mountain bike ride, we ride our mountain bikes. After the ride everyone filled up on cervesas and tacos de pescado.  friendslipper.gif (341123 bytes)

in September of 2007 I did the Los Angeles Triathlon Olympic distance race for my second time. Once again, I rode my mountain bike among the many top of the line road and Tri bikes. My swim and run splits were good, but my bike split was among the slowest in my age group. Perhaps Ill buy a road bike before I try any longer distance races. I knew there were cameras at the finish line so I had a fun little time coming down the finishers chute. Check out this link for the 30 second video of my finish. You'll know which runner is me by my antics.

Ill be adding pictures and stories soon, so check back. . .
